HIFU Treatment Preparation, Aftercare and Contra-Indications
HIFU Facial Pre-Treatment Preparation
- Drink a lot of water to ensure your body is well-hydrated
- Avoid alcohol consumption
- Avoid consuming soya products and garlic
- Do not use beta carotene as a supplement for 2 days prior
- Limit the use of Ibuprofen (pain medication)
- Do not take Voltaren orally or use topical Voltaren on the area to be treated
- Reduce excessive smoking
- Cease use of Schedule 7 drugs (with physician’s consent)
- Do not have a chemical peel or sever deep exfoliation within 2 days prior to the treatments (this makes the skin too sensitive)
Post-HIFU Facial Treatment Aftercare
- Wash your face with lukewarm water only, no hot or very cold water to be used
- Apply a hydrating moisturiser liberally
- Apply SPF and avoid sun where possible
- The face will feel sensitive and may have limited superficial bruising – this can endure for a week depending on your healing ability
Contra-Indications For Facial HIFU Treatment
- Electronic devices and implants (eg. healing aids, pacemakers)
- Metal implants (Maryna and Copper T – vaginal devices)
- Main nerves, pinched nerves and facial trigeminal neuralgia
- Schedule 5-7 medications
- Epilepsy, diabetes, autoimmune diseases (especially Lupus and/or bone conditions)
- Pregnancy
- Skin diseases
- Suffering of low blood sugar
- Hyper thyroid (over active)
- Ruaccutane use
- Transplant patients
- Use of blood thinners (eg. Warferin)
- Areas where Botox and/ or fillers have been administered (minimum 6 months wait)
- Skin graft patients
- Hemophilia or any severe bleeding
- Infectious diseases
- Heart conditions
- Any forms of cancer or tumor
- High blood pressure patients (requires physicians approval)
