Frequently Asked Questions About Hyaluronic Lip Plumping
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that occurs naturally in the body, including the skin, eyes, and joints. The primary function of hyaluronic acid is to provide moisture to these areas of the body. Hyaluronic acid plays a crucial role in skin moisture. As people age, the moisture in their skin decreases causing visible signs of aging.
Your lips are numbed with a very effective numbing cream before the treatment. The most you will experience is a slight ‘thud’ when the product is pushed in, almost like someone is flicking your lip with their fingers. There is also very little sensitivity after the treatment and clients usually just go about their day again..
Every person’s experience is different, but the most common side effects, if any, might include redness/tenderness, a ‘firm’ feeling on the lips, a little swelling, slight lumps (which is massaged away) and a little bruising. People prone to fever blisters sometimes have a flare-up so we suggest taking an antiviral prior to your appointment to negate this.
We start with at least three sessions, sometimes more, to get to the desired result. After that the results will last anywhere from 3 – 9 months.
Maximum 1 hour
We recommend starting with three treatments, but keep in mind that when you do the treatment for the first time the results may last a little shorter. You need to gradually build up the filler and with each series of treatments the results will last longer and longer.
When you are:
– Pregnant or breastfeeding
– Under 18 years
– Hypersensitive
– Severe allergic anaphylactic tendencies
– Active oral herpes
– Have a severely compromised immune system or,
– Being under immunosuppressive therapy

One week before your treatment avoid the following as it can cause bruising, bumps, more visible pinpoint marks and even a lack of volume: Blood thinners, caffeine, alcohol, St. John’s Wart, Ginko Biloba, primrose oil, fish oil, vitamin E, aspirin, ibuprofen or similar products.
No tretinoin, retinal, retinoids, glycolic acid, chemical peels or any skin sensitising products one week BEFORE and AFTER the treatment.
72 hours before and after treatment it is best to eat foods that will boost your Vitamin K such as spinach, kale and celery and avoid processed foods that dehydrate your body.
Hydration, hydration, hydration. Ensure that you drink 1 to 2 litres of water for two days before treatment. To boost hydration levels you should drink a sachet of ReHydrate the day of your treatment and for two days after. Why? The Hyaluronic Acid bonds to the hyaluronic acid and water already in your body.
Because the new fillers need time to set it requires lots of water so also try to avoid rigorous exercise that will cause excessive sweating.
Post-Treatment Protocol
Continue to drink lots of water and even ReHydrate for two days after your treatment.
Avoid processed foods that dehydrates your body and fill up on foods that are high in Vitamin K, such as spinach, kale and celery.
Avoid excessive sweating that will remove moisture from your body.
You can use Arnica tablets or creams to help with any bruising and always use a SPF lip balm.
