Types of Permanent Makeup

Permanent Makeup Eyes

Permanent eye makeup is the ideal solution for individuals who have allergic reactions to certain cosmetics, have trouble applying eyeliner in a defined line, or has a job or hobbies that lead to frequent smudging. Permanent eyeliner defines and accentuates the eyes in a variety of colours, styles and techniques on both the upper and lower lid.

Permanent Makeup Lips

Permanent lip makeup can be applied in the form of liner to define the lip line or correct uneven lips; or as full lip colour in a variety of natural or more vibrant colours. With expert application, it can result in a fuller appearance, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and also prevent any additional lipstick you apply from bleeding beyond your preferred lip line.

Permanent Makeup Eyebrows

Permanent eyebrow makeup is a popular cosmetic solution for individuals whose natural brows are very light or sparse, or have fallen out completely due to age-related thinning, medical treatments or skin conditions like alopecia. With expert application of hypoallergenic pigments, brows can be beautifully enhanced, shaped and filled in. We offer microbladed, powdered or Ombré eyebrow procedures.

The Benefits of Permanent Makeup

  1. It’s simple and efficient Once you’ve invested in professional cosmetic tattooing, you won’t need to apply and remove your makeup every day. You can simply supplement your existing cosmetics with any added elements (e.g. concealer, blusher, highlighter, etc.) you want to include.
  2. It’s hypoallergenic. Individuals who are allergic to conventional cosmetics find that permanent makeup is a great, long-term solution that allows them to look fresh and polished without any skin reactions.
  3. You’ll look presentable 24/7. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve just stepped out of the gym, or emerged from the pool or ocean after a refreshing dip, your permanent makeup will still be in place.
  4. It can be used to hide or lessen the appearance of scars. Facial scarring can sometimes be diminished by the application of expertly applied permanent makeup.
  5. It fills in hair lost to illness, accidents or cancer treatment. If you’ve lost your eyebrows and/or lashes due to chemotherapy, burns or hormonal changes, permanent makeup can fill in those features.

Frequently Asked Questions About Permanent Makeup

What is permanent makeup?

Also referred to as cosmetic tattooing, micro-pigmentation or permanent cosmetics, permanent makeup is a process whereby hypo-allergenic pigments are implanted into the dermis of the skin in a way that resembles perfectly applied makeup on the lips, eyes, eyebrows, etc.

How is permanent makeup done?

A highly trained technician implants pigments under the skin of a client in the desired shape and texture by using a manual tool (best for creating 3D effects on brows and lip lines), a hand-held rotary machine (preferred for larger surface areas like full lips or scar tissue repair) or a coil machine that uses an electromagnet used to generate a magnetic field (mostly used for body tattooing).

Who can do permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup should always be applied by a highly skilled, expertly trained technician with a proven track record and references. It is suitable for most individuals. Please get in touch with a Mel’s Skin Clinic representative if you have a certain skin condition (e.g. cold sores, psoriasis, etc.) that you feel may preclude you from getting permanent makeup. We are happy to provide you with an expert opinion in this regard.

Can permanent makeup cover stretch marks?

The appearance of stretch marks can be addressed and reduced by means of colour correcting achieved with permanent makeup. Essentially, the technician will cover the red, blue or white stretch marks with a pigment that resembles the tone of your skin, thereby making it less noticeable.

What is the healing time after getting permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup takes approximately two weeks to fully settle and heal, depending on the type and consistency of your skin. Please note that the colour and intensity may be a lot darker than you expected in the first few days after applications, but this normally settles after 3 – 5 days.

How to remove permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup can be removed by means of a tattoo removal procedure. Trained technicians commonly use lasers to remove permanent makeup, breaking up the tattoo ink under the skin so the cells can absorb the molecules.

Is permanent makeup really permanent?

Like any other tattoo, permanent makeup will fade over the course of time. This is why most permanent cosmetic clients will return for touch-ups at regular intervals to ensure that their look remains fresh.
